My Story

Davide De Santis (born November 11, 1977, in Milan), known in China as Dawei (大卫 in Chinese), has been living in China since 1998. For almost 20 years continuously, he has been dedicated to the study of "Internal Arts." Sifu De Santis is fluent in Mandarin and has been officially involved in significant projects aimed at promoting and fostering cultural and commercial exchange between China and Italy. This situation has led Sifu Dawei to spend several months in Europe every year, allowing him to establish and lead a prestigious academy of Nei Jia Quan. This academy represents a unique and rare expression of the teachings of the greatest Chinese masters in Yi Quan, TaiJi Quan, and Wing Chun.

1998 - I arrived in China

"I arrive in Beijing without knowing the Chinese language, but armed with a lot of hope, patience, and goodwill. I meet Master TingJun, who teaches me ZhanZhuang QiGong, XingShenZhuang, and BaDuanJin, introducing me shortly after to the world of NeiJia. Soon, I will get to know the twins YaoChengGuang and YaoChengRong, sons of the famous master YaoZongXun, a disciple of the founder of YiQuan, GM WangXiangZhai. Later on, I will become their translator for courses with foreigners. It's a new world with thoughts, habits, food, and language completely different from what I was accustomed to. I eliminate every prejudice and stereotype, immersing myself in this growth experience as if it were a new beginning."

2024 - YiQuan

"I delve even deeper through a mix of luck and meritocracy when I encounter the YiQuan AiHao study group in Beijing, founded by GM WangYuFang, daughter of the founder of YiQuan, GM WangXiangZhai.

This research group included key figures like SuiYunMing and the WangBingHui family, including brothers WangYongXiang, WangYongLi, and many other highly skilled masters. Among them was the remarkable BaiJingJia, who, although training in another part of the city, was also a member of the YiQuan AiHao movement led by the founder's daughter and would often visit us. It was years of intense practice, and my interaction with them led me to learn Mandarin with a Beijing accent."

2006 - Taiji Quan

"The Taoist monks of the Temple of Fire and Cloud decide to teach me Taiji XinShen, a practice that has been passed down for centuries in their lineage and was never before taught to a foreigner. I am still the only Western representative.

This particular KungFu lineage is a blend of BaGua Zhang, XingYiQuan, and TaiJi Chen, fundamentally relying on the same energetic principles that I was studying through YiQuan QiGong with the YiQuan AiHao group in Beijing. XinShen is a 'poetry in motion' that teaches how to move the body in space while maintaining a centered structure, despite the extreme dynamics of Yin and Yang."

2009 - Italy

"I return to Milan for a short period because I decide, with the consent of my masters, to establish an association for the promotion of these disciplines.

I thus open the Beijing YiQuan Training Center, naming it so because the initial central location of the school was in a Chinese villa on the outskirts of Beijing. However, since only a few people joined us due to the distance and cost of travel at that time, I decided to conduct training courses in Italy. Therefore, I split my time between China (to continue my research) and Italy (to promote and teach what I had learned).

During these years, I also write my first book, "Diary of a Taoist."

Of course, I have always taught only what I had permission to teach. I never mixed my experimental training, but instead, I acted as a bridge and intermediary to a culture so complex. I teach what I know works 100% because I have experimented with it on myself, not what I think might be useful."

2015 - WingChun

"In China, I am called by the Shaolin monks for collaboration. They believe that, thanks to YiQuan, I already have the necessary knowledge and the ability to quickly learn their system to transmit it to the West. Considering it as cultural heritage of their country, they share with me the WingChun PanNam of Master Ma from FoShan, incorporated into Shaolin by monks ShiDeLe and ShiDeLong. DeLong's WingChun maintains Master Ma's strategy but with the engine of Shaolin's NeiJia Gong, which I notice is very similar to that of YiQuan. For this reason, I accept the challenge and responsibility of carrying forward this complex system over time. From this collaboration, a beautiful friendship will also emerge."

2018 - Degree in MTC

"I obtain a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Beijing Capital Medical University and decide to teach Healing Tao and 'somatic psychology' immediately at Dr. ZhangT's private hospital. It is the first Traditional Chinese Medicine center to have a Westerner as a teacher of therapeutic QiGong.

The study of aijiu (moxibustion), ba guan (cupping), guasha ('scratching the fever'), and TuiNa (massage techniques) alongside the practice of YangShen QiGong ('nourishing and cultivating one's being') produces a profound effect of overall psychophysical well-being."

2020 - Tao OnLine

"Pandemic underway. With the approval of all the masters of YiQuan, TaiJi XinShen, and WingChun, I decide to create, for the first time, online training packages for both martial arts and everything related to health, including assertiveness, the release of traumas, and energetic knots. In doing so, we offer the opportunity for a professional transformation journey even for those who, in the midst of distancing, want to grow and move forward by learning internal martial arts, freeing themselves from patterns, and overcoming emotional difficulties. Martial arts are not only for defending oneself from others but also from internal 'problems' such as anxiety and fear. Traumas create energetic blocks, and wherever there is a block, there is no harmony. Where harmony is lacking, there is rigidity, and where there is rigidity, there is acidity. Acidity leads to stagnation or excess or deficiency, and to be excellent fighters, explosive and precise, we must have internal peace to be ready for the external battle."
